Hellfire Pass and Death Railway History Tour (Code : HT)

Hellfire Pass is a historical site in Thailand that commemorates the suffering and sacrifice of the prisoners of war and forced laborers who built the Death Railway during World War II. The Death Railway was a 415-kilometer railway that connected Thailand and Burma, and was used by the Japanese to supply their troops. The construction of the railway claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people, mostly Asian workers and Allied POWs.

This great one day tour takes you to the picturesque province of Kanchanaburi where you will first visit the Allied prisoner of war cemetery from World War II, Then onto the Bridge of the River Kwai where you will have time to walk over the famous bridge. And then after an exciting train ride along the Thailand-Burma Death Railway with it’s famous trestle viaduct that travels the length of the mountain side you will head on to the wonderful Sai Yok Waterfall and the Hellfire Pass Memorial before heading to the Elephant Camp and other exciting activities!

Hellfire Pass Museum closed 24th 25th 26th 27th 31st December,  1st January Every Year.

Warning Tips..It can be hot our there! Thailand is very hot. Please bring plenty of bottled water, sun screen etc.
Don’t forget to bring a cap, towel, sun glasses, energy drinks, painkillers etc.
Take special care of camera equipment make sure battery is full charged.
It’s easy to trip and drop a camera. Always keep back up SD cards and back up your photos.
Tipping : If you tip the guide remember the driver he is the one that gets you there and back to your hotel safely.

Itinerary

Note : Times are an estimate depending on the amount of time you spend at each activity. Confirm with your guide on the day.

07:00 am  Pick up at your Hotel in Bangkok and Leave for the beautiful province of Kanchanaburi.
10:30 am  Arrive in Kanchanaburi where you will visit the Cemetery for the Allied Prisoners of War used for forced labor on the Burma-Thailand death railway by the Japanese during their occupation in World War II and then visit the world famous Bridge over the River Kwai. Then board the Train for a ride over the death railway the Bridge on the river kwai to the cliff hanging trestle bridge to Nam Tok Station. (150 Baht/pp)
11:30 am  Lunch at Thai Local Restaurant.
01:00 pm  Head out to the picturesque Sai Yok Waterfall, another one of Thailand’s amazing natural wonders and the old abandoned Japanese Train from WWII that sits in the jungle very close to the falls.
02:00 pm  Visit the Hellfire Pass Memorial, here you can take a walk through the part of the railway known as hellfire pass. This part of the railway was cut through the sheer rock face of the mountain by allied P.O.W.’s using more hand tools. Hellfire Pass is so called because the sight of emaciated prisoners labouring at night by torchlight was said to resemble a scene from Hell!
03:30 pm  Optional extras depending on time : Leave for the Elephant Camp where you can enjoy a cool down while swimming and bathing with these magnificent animals, swimming and bathing with an Elephant (800 Baht/pp) or Elephant Ride (600 Baht/pp).
05:00 pm  Leave Kanchanaburi and head back to Bangkok.
